The Dwarf Lop – Colorful and Cuddly

A Dwarf Lop is very similar in appearance to its’ similarly sized cousin, the Mini Lop. The only real difference is size, the Dwarf Lop being larger by a beat or so on average.

Both breeds make fantastic pets, but as the Dwarf Lop lives to an average of nine or ten years ancient, they are rabbits that will be around for a long time, with proper care and handling.

Do the Ears Hang Low?

The baby Dwarf Lop is born, like all breeds of lop, with ears that stand up honest. As they mature the ears flop down into the characteristic droopy style.

The Dwarf Lop breed was perfected initially, as the result of introducing a dwarfing gene to a strain of French Lop rabbits in the late nineteen eighties. They are a relatively new breed to American market, but are becoming increasingly well loved as pets for older children. It is not always recommended to give a Dwarf Lop to a very small child, as they are quite delicate and may not withstand rough handling.

Dwarf Lops come in many uncommon insignia, from black to lilac to orange. They can be one of any number of patterns too. Show Dutch Lops will only be accepted in black, white, blue, agouti, chinchilla, sable, seal point and fawn. Any other color would be disqualified as unsuitable.

As Cool as Cats

The Dwarf Lop is quite smart, and can be trained to use a litter box or tray. If you do influence to litter train any breed of rabbit it is best to use a non- clumping litter, as rabbits choke easily, and will not be able to digest hard lumps of clay litter.

Dwarf Lops are usually very affectionate and loving. Some pet owners report that their Lops really seem to be purring when they are being stroked and petted.

    hi to all! i like bunnys (and cats!) the dwarf lop is my fav breed. They are, to be sure very cute, cudly and soft. They are so adorable! i have 4 kittens and a buck and a doe! they are all dwarf lops and i like them to bits. Just a few bunny tips;
    - dont feed your rabbit lettuce under any circumstances, it CAN kill them.
    - Brush your rabbits occasionaly, because unlike cats, they can not digest hairballs.
    - dont keep rabbits and guinea pigs together, because, for many reasons, the rabbit might kick and injure or kill the guinea pig.
    - rabbits must have a 24 hour suply of clean water and fresh hay, pelets or mixed feed should be supplied day after day, preferbly in the mornings and fruits and vegies should be an occasional treat. BUT NOT LETTUCE!!!!
    - have some hay or news paper or card board on the floor of a hutch/cage so their sensitive feet which do not have padding on them dont get hurt or dammaged.
    - rabbits are more pleased when they are accompanied by other rabbits, so it is surpass to have two or more.
    - rabbits CAN mate through wire, so dont have a cage with a buck, and a cage with a doe slam dunk, side by side with wire seperating them. But it is okay to have the cages in this area five or more centimeters appart. This will stop any unwanted pregnancies.

    that is enough for now. but a pleased bunny is a pleased owner! say hi to your bunny/s!
